Hunting tricks and the best whitetail deer hunting in Texas

Top whitetail deer hunting in Texas with hunting advices? Once you’re in a promising location, don’t give up on it just because your buck doesn’t show up on the first day. The following day’s forecast, even if only slightly different, could put that deer in your sights. Besides, the whitetail season is too short to waste time waiting for long-john weather, and you may miss a chance at a trophy buck if you do. If that creek or pond is tucked back in the woods, consider setting up right on the water source, as bucks will often grab a drink before heading out to feed in hot weather. When hunting north-slope timber, use the ridges to hide your approach.

Hunt Plan: Sit all day, or for as long as possible, in your best terrain funnels near doe bedding areas or security cover. If you know bucks are visiting a doe feeding area, don’t hesitate to put out a decoy and/or call and rattle aggressively. When deer aren’t on their feet due to hunting pressure or because they’re tending does, take the action to them by still-hunting or organizing a drive. Deer Behavior: Exhausted from the rut and pressured by hunters, bucks focus on eating and staying alive. They generally reduce their movements to a simple bed-to-feed pattern.

This was an amazing adventure for our family of six. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Cabins with private bathrooms are very clean. Food is DELICIOUS. Most of all they are #1 in hospitality. They went above and beyond to make us feel at home and like we were part of their family. Thank you so much for a fabulous adventure. Aaron Warbritton, The Hunting Public: With new or unfamiliar land, I dive straight in and cover as much country as I can. I use permethrin to keep the ticks off and go straight into what I figure is the thickest bedding area—the most secure cover I can find. Unless it’s a September 1 opener, I’m not worried about disturbing a bedding area. I’d rather go in and get the new scouting intel I need than not get it. It’s too crucial. We’ve spooked bucks out of bedding areas in the middle of August and then seen those same bucks and others in that area in October.
